The Fuji Rock Festival in Tokyo, Japan has been going on. My friend Yuh, a Japhan whom I met in Tokyo for the 2000 Phish tour writes this mini review (in English I might add!): "Fuji Rock was very good. I saw a lot of bands: Galactic, String Cheese Incident and Karl Denson and also a few Japanese (bands). Galactic was really cool. They were better than last year. They played with Karl Denson and George Clinton. SCI were good, too. They became to play a little techno taste during jam. And Travis (from SCI) joined Karl Denson. I, Jun and Kohey saw ZOBO at SCI show. He was excited to gather us and to see a lot of Japanese friends. And .... it seemed he traveled with Japanese girl, then he said all Japanese girls loved Zobo. Do you think so? I don't wanna believe it!"

By the way, I can't stop laughing at the last two sentences! Domo Arigato, Yuh!

Señor to Star in Cambodian TV Series

Yes! Señor has been the latest pop culture hit in Cambodia after he filmed a local version of the reality based/inspired series of Meet the Parents: Cambodia. Here's what Señor said about the last episode:

"Today this chick took me to meet her whole family, I'm talking parents, aunts, uncles, cousins... and none of them speaks a word of english!!!!! They all stared at me, touched me and smiled, it was bizarre."

Lance Armstrong First American to Win Fourth Tour de France Here's a bit from Espn.com: "PARIS- Lance Armstrong is getting used to this, cruising toward the tree-lined Champs-Elysees with a bright yellow jersey on his back and a glass of champagne in his hand... for the fourth straight year, Lance Armstrong was wearing yellow in Paris...the Texan with the iron legs to match his will handily won his fourth Tour de France... to the cheers of thousands of fans, many waving U.S. flags, who lined the famous boulevard."

I'm writing a new novel. It's offical. I started the new one, oh, about three weeks ago. But I threw it out. All of it. Yes, this morning, I chucked it, and started a re-write. Draft #2. That's when I know it's a serious idea... when I scrap what I got and start again from Page 1. I have been riding a steady wave of inspiration the last few weeks, coupled with a freshly discovered confidence in my writing ability (thanks to the support of my new Tuesday's Writers Group) and the particpation of my friends and fellow scribes with my projects (Truckin & E-Story) which has really gotten my creative juices flowing and the words are seeping out of my head and brain and need to go somewhere...

So far the new novel is called: Untitled 2002. Exciting, huh! If I write one page a day, I will have a 340 page novel by July 4, 2003. That's my goal. I'm being as realistic as I can regarding my time, taking into account my employment circumstances and lack of time to write, in addition to sharing my writing time with the daily ramblings to the TAO and the monthly E-Zine, Truckin'. More updates to come...
Just got an e-mail from Señor!! He returned to Asia on Wednesday. Here's a bit: "Now I am in Cambodia and have already met up with two cuties I was friends with from last trip. It's great... like Señor's Reunion Tour."

Comment from Jessica on the Señor Reunion Tour: "Handsome Little Man with Lots of Hair... that's what Señor means in Cambodian."

Editor's Note: Señor is actually 5 feet 7 inches tall, a good 6 or 7 inches taller than the average Cambodian woman. I always thought Señor in Cambodian loosely translated to: Smiling man who drops his pants during the monsoon.

In business news... DOW SOARS 489 Points for a record setting day on Wall Street. It was the best day for 2002 and it ssnapped a 4 day losing streak. Buiness News... I was told upon arriving at work, that today will be one wild day and I should make sure I'm wearing a helmet, safety goggles and if necessary, a bulletproof vest. More to come. The Asian and European markets have been down since they opened earlier this morning. Even the chairman of the NYSE says Monday Will Be a Rough Day. I got a stern warning from one of the partners today: DO NOT LOSE ANY CLIENTS TODAY... IF YOU DO, YOU LOSE YOUR JOB!!! Gulp! Investors are starting to panic, have been doing so the last 2 weeks and I expect them to pull even more cash out of the stock market. Alas, if I can get through today, I'll have a job AND survived one of the toughest days on Wall Street in the last 50 years. I should have gone to medical school and been a doctor.

"The American way is to seduce a man by bribery and make a prostitute of him. Or else to ignore him, starve him into submission and make a hack out of him." - Henry Miller

Got my ER Bill from Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan this week. I have to pay 100% of it because I have no insurance. Here's the rundown:

ER Visit Charge: $550
X-Ray Charge: 3 Fingers: $132
Radiology Charge: $25
NY State Surcharge: $55.79

Total: $752.79

$752.79 is the price I am billed for getting my finger snapped back into place by an Ivy League educated, White, Jewish, male doctor who speaks perfect English, that works in a hospital in near Spanish Harlem. If you haven't been to an ER in NYC recently, then you wouldn't know just how lucky I got to have to pay top dollar for the best doctor on rotation that morning.

If you would like to donate any money to the Tao of Pauly ER Bill Fund send me an E-mail and I'll write you back more information on how you can help.

"You argue Jerry is missing from the mix and it can't be the same anymore. I argue that he's here - every time you notice him gone poof he's back, in the things and ways he created to outlive him, ways of doing music, a peculiar sense of humor to it all and an attitude to life that we all partake in, each changed by him to function more honestly and directly with the world, knowing our only weapon is mutual love, good humor and music. DOW Tumbles Below 9.11 Low The Dow suffered a devastating 4.8 percent loss today, tumbling below its post Sept. 11 intraday low to levels not seen since September 1998 in its ninth down day over the past ten. The blue-chip barometer has fallen almost 14 percent since the start of the month. Bob Dylan said it best: "It's a hard rains that's gonna fall."

Lounge 225 Hosted a Rowdy Poker Game

It was an epic night of card playing in the backyard of Lounge 225 in the East Village last night. A 4 hour and 40 minute game came to an end right before 1am earlier this morning. Mike Ying was the big winner taking home a cool $45 in cash from the rest of us saps. I walked away with $4 in winnings after being down $20 in the first 90 minutes. I rallied back only to lose a crucial $15 hand of Kings and Little Men. I thought I had enough to win, but my four of a kind TENS were no match for Spider's four ACES! Gil, Senor, Gittler, Darryl rounded out the rest of the seats in the 90 plus degree sweltering summer air.

The highlight, without a doubt was the now infamous window incident... which I will blog more later!! Stay tuned for this epic story of sheer erotica.
DOW is down 277... er 278 points as I type this. I have been on the phones non stop since 7:57am. Now the DOW is down 280.64 points. It's gonna be another wild ride.

OK, thanks to Girtz who is always looking out for the TAO. He told me earlier in the evening that he had noticed a slowdown in recent blogs to the TAO and wonered what was up. Well, Girtz, here are my three excuses:

•Swamped at work, no time to blog the last 48 hours.
•Blogger was down this morning when I attempted to blog a few news articles.
•I took the afternoon off yesterday to enjoy our 95 degree weather.

All blogs today are deadicated to Girtz!

My Complaint E-Mail to AOL

Original Sender: McGruppppppp
To: AOL Complaints
Re: SPAM

Once again I am writing to complain about the HIGH volume of SPAM going to my AOL account. These sex emails have to stop. I do not have children (yet) and this is one reason why I will make sure we don't use AOL in the future of this continues. This has to stop, and please do not send or FWD me one of those FORM letters telling me how hard you are working on this problem, b/c thats all you send me when I complain. ACTION! I like to see action, not talk. Do something about this very soon, or I will pull my AOL account. I have been looking into Net zero and Earthlink and my coworkers tell me they do a MUCH BETTER JOB THAN AOL at reducing spam and those SEX XXX emails. I am loyal to AOL, been so since JAN 1997, and I foolishly shell out over $200 a year to be harassed. Maybe it's time for a change b/c im not feeling the LOVE from AOL. The only love I'm getting is from those nasty horny teenage cheerleaders who email me up to ten times a day to tell me that they want me to see their naked bodies and ejaculate on them while their new voyeur cam captures all this for their latest website. THEY Seem to be doing a better job at selling their product than you do. Yours in heat, McGrupp

Editor's Note: I know, I know. I LIED about the kids part. But who cares, it's fucking AOL!

Tao reaches readers and artists in Japan!!!

Read this e-mail I got from Marcus Grandon a Japhan from Tokyo, whom I met during Phish's 2000 Tour of Japan. He has a new book coming out on Monday called Fried Sushi which you all must read! OK, here's his e-mail to me:

Hi, First of all, I want to say that I think you have a killer website. I loved surfing around its various corners.

Pauly, I am Marcus Grandon from Japhamily, tour and that world. Sometimes, people refer to me as Tokyo Marcus. Not Marcus from NYC.

While I know that we have partied in the same buildings on numerous occasions, I am not sure if we have talked. Are you the same Pauly that I hung out with in San Francisco for the Les show on 12/30/00? We did the Les show then walked across to that bar, hung out, and you told people that I was Christian Slater (As he looks just like me). It may not be you, I can't remember your last name. I think that this Pauly is Canadian.

Anyway, I am really writing to you because we are of like minds. Check it out: I am a writer, I have a video production company (Grand Marquee Productions - A part of NIkmat Enterprises), I studied business as an undergrad and worked in the corporate world for a few years (what was I thinking?).

Among the numerous projects I have been a part of in the last year, one has finally come to fruition. I, along with a group of foreign writers living in Japan, have published a book of short stories to be released in bookstores here on Monday. Our book is called "Fried Sushi - Stories by Foreign Writers Living in Japan". We have mostly fiction, but have also included some travel writing. It is a cool mixing of the talents that gives this book some real energy. 24 stories by 6 writers.

See attachment for an invitation to our book release party tomorrow.

We were wondering if "Truckin" would like to run a travel story, or perhaps a bit of fiction from 'Fried Sushi'

BTW, nice piece on Fukuoka. As for my contribution to Japan tour, well, I have nearly 5 hours of digital video footage in my archives of the places we saw, and scenes from outside the venues. I am trying to get around to editing them. Maybe this summer.

Peace, Marcus

Editor's Note: If you can pick up Fried Sushi.

"Obscenity is a cleansing process, whereas pornography only adds to the murk." - Henry Miller
A comment from Al K. Dah about the anonymous e-mail post from earlier called: ENTP. I still have no clue who sent me that e-mail!

"That anonymous email was weird... three things came to mind when I was reading that blog...

1) One of your friends is playing a goofy joke on you by making you think that some random person wrote this about you without even knowing you.

2) Some psycho, who happens to read your website and is obssesed with it or you, analyzed all the information that you blog onto your website and cross referenced his objective perceptions about your personality with a physcology book and just spouted out the generic phsyco babble analytic BS pertaining to certain "general" personality types.

3) THEY (the CIA, Illuminati, the Student Loan Corp., Dick Cheney, Fox Mulder, Elian Gonzalez, al Qaeda, aliens, and/or the Skulls, etc. - you pick one) are watching you and messing with you and/or attempting to contact you for some reason. Your Lone Gunman Theory has THEM watching you. Maybe THEY are trying to see if you are a threat to them.

Either way... do NOT blog this e-mail because I don't need THEM watching me too. The next time I go to the dentist, I don't want to end up needing some strange and unnnecessary dental work so THEY can install bugging devices."

Read the orginial freaky e-mail a few bloggs below!

Strange! This is an e-mail that was anonymously sent to me:

ENTP

Ok. Ready?

You like to chase the novel and complex. You have faith in your ability to overcome any challenges you face... highly independent... value adaptability and innovation... you encourage and value change.

You need freedom for action... you resist hierarchy and structure... you push against all odds to further your projects with your entrepreneurial tendencies... you can argue and find the flaws in any position.

How'm I doing so far?

You rarely accept things just as they are... you like to test new meanings and relationships... when you don't get what you want, you use your cleverness and ingenuity to bring people around to your point of view... when you choose a career, you tend to set flexible goals that allow you to incorporate new information and accommodate to new circumstances.

"Keep your options open" is your middle name... you like to explore the "road not taken." Your flexibility can look like indecision to others who don't have a clue about you... you take advantage of opportunities... you realize potential of many things because of your ability to see connections and relationships between SEEMINGLY unrelated things... you cannot be ordered around, but rather handle things best when they are *suggestions*.... you love excitement.

Competence is key to you... you don't take advice or respect someone you don't see as competent... you want work to be enjoyable... you're a relentless learner. Knowledge is important to you... you use your enthusiasm to get others involved in your learning... you learn through give-and-take discussions and by questioning and challenging others... you like challenging your teachers and colleagues... limitations are mere challenges to you... you take initiative, and once the ball is rolling, you like to turn it over to someone else.

You like to organize logically and strategically... your work space might not LOOK organized, but underneath it all is a system that works for you. You like to have an impact... you need a job that allows you to be innovative. you like to take risks and explore... an open calendar for the weekend is really appealing... you're often "in on the latest things."

You like travel, because it allows you to open up new vistas and horizons (corny, huh?).

Falling in love happens when there's a good "fit" with another person... you often know after the first meeting whether there's any "real potential"... you may not like to commit until that right person comes along... therefore you probably won't settle down early... you don't like to lose at ANYTHING you undertake... you're a born enterpriser.

Things to be on guard for: you have a great fear of looking dumb or incompetent... you may tend to think you have the perfect solutions for problems, and may become competitive when others challenge you... you might start to think that you're the only one who's in on the truth of things, so you might not like to listen to the input of others... you may have the tendency to overextend yourself as you jump in on lots of ideas without considering how long it takes to work 'em through... commit to too many projects?

You are a rebel... you find it difficult to accept standard operating procedures... and hate HAVING to follow exact rules or policies... learn to work within the system.

ENTP: "Each New Thought Propels"

Editor's Note: I have no idea who sent this funny, but oddly true E-mail to me. Do you?
"The man who looks for security, even in the mind, is like a man who would chop off his limbs in order to have artificial ones which will give him no pain or trouble." - Henry Miller

Isolated Incident... Lone Gunman. BULLSHIT!

Don't believe the hype! Word on the Conspiracy Street is that shooter was Egyptian, a sleeper cell probably with Egyptian Jihad. Rumors are flying about the net that a second gunman or accomplice eluded airport security and/or the FBI have him in custody and aren't releasing that information (for various security reasons, which i do agree with). However, the real story is the LONE GUN MAN/ISLOATED INCIDENT THEORY. This is AMERICA's FAVORITE COVER UP STORY, the Lone Gunman Theory (e.g. John Wilkes Booth, Sirhan Sirhan, Lee Harvey Oswald, David Hinkley, Timothy McVeigh). And yes, most Americans are stupid enough to believe it, espcially if CNN says it over and over enough times. As the papers spread the propoganda, and the TV news programs keep spreading the cover story, that all will weigh in heavily on America's minds and if you tell a lie enough at some point it becomes fact and and I'm sure the so called experts and pundits will denounce the LAX shooting as terrorism and hammer home the notion that it was a lone gunman. I loved it when that Israeli security expert guy got on CNN yesterday and was saying TERRORIST this and TERRORIST that, and the pussies at CNN were giving him a hard time for saying that without proof, what more proof do you need??? They were trying to prevent a panic and scare on a festive day. I call this the Pussification of America and it has to stop today! And this is why we are doomed to fail in this war on terrorism. How many subways and buses will have to be blown up in our cities before CNN and the media acknowledge that we are in deeper shit than they are leading us to believe, and that is unexcusable AND a gross mis-use of media outlets. We need to adopt a more aggressive strategy, the likes of what the Israelis have done so with Palestine, let's knock down doors, and ask questions later. Hey, these terrorists give their malnourshied 4 and 5 year old kids copies of the Koran, guns, grenades, and explosives to play with so they can kill Jews and Americans when they turn 12 or 13. For fuck's sake America, no more Happy Meals, Nintendo and Harry Potter books for our little ones. Instead of Brintey Spears videos, make our kids watch the Daniel Pearl murder. Make them watch videos of those poor souls who jumped out of the top floors of the WTC on 9.11. Force them to listen to the horrible gut wrenching sounds that the bodies of those jumpers make, like lighting striking, when they crash into the street in front of the WTC. Instead of MTV, have them listen to the messages of hate and destruction spewed out towards Americans and Jews, daily on Al Jezerra Arab TV. Maybe then, the $100 they spend at the mall that day will actually MEAN SOMETHING. Our lavish lifestyle and all those Starbucks and Men In Black 2 movies are making our kids soft and reliant upon money and pursuit of luxurious and unnecessary material items, all of which are tools to suck away your cash and are well placed distractions from the harsh reality of the world we live in. While in America if you don't spoil our kids, you're looked at as shitty parents, and you know what? That is an attitude that will never change. While in the Arab world, they are breeding new generations of terrorists, and in America, we're breeding consumers and fat lazy workers. We're fucked. So enjoy that Happy Meal, America because it might be your last.

"Whenever a taboo is broken, something good happens, something vitalizing. Taboos after all are only hangovers, the product of diseased minds, you might say, of fearsome people who hadn't the courage to live and who under the guise of morality and religion have imposed these things upon us." - Henry Miller

"A man writes to throw off the poison which he has accumulated because of his false way of life. He is trying to recapture his innocence, yet all he succeeds in doing (by writing) is to inoculate the world with a virus of his disillusionment. No man would set a word down on paper if he had the courage to live out what he believed in." - Henry Miller

Ah the little dances that echo through my head
are nothing compared to the sounds
that bounced off my bedroom walls
as the television reporters took the afternoon
to watch and take notes
for their overweight bosses
