New York City
One of the benefits of going home to NYC for Christmas is getting to see Phish play Madison Square Garden for four nights including New Year's Eve. I caught them at MSG for a fourth year in a row and luckily Nicky flew out after Christmas to join in the festivities.
I wrote three recaps of the shows (never wrote about NYE because I was way too wasted and memory was fuzzy). The first night happened to be my 300th show, but I didn't make a big deal about it because the math is suspect and not 100% verified. I actually think I've seen more concerts but cannot 100% verify that, which means my 300th show probably happened in Atlantic City around Halloween. Anyway, in my memory it all bleeds into one long Phish show anyway.
Recaps here:
MSG Night 1: Phish Demolition SquadPhish has been around for 30 years. Most bands don't even last 30 days let alone 3 years, so it's a testament to the band's willingness to work stuff out, stay creatively sharp, and not sweat the small stuff. They're survivors in a treacherous biz that chews up bands and brutally dices them up.
MSG Night 2: Church of Carini
MSG Night 3: Gotta Have That
Here is a video that was shown on MSG's jumbotron to commemorate Phish's 30th anniversary...
