Slacking

Covering poker tournament sucks the life out of me. I never have any time to write for myself and the last thing I want to do when I get back to my hotel room is to write. Since I have an end of day recap to write for PokerNews, I'm either working on it before I crash at 4am or waking up early to finish it off.

I spent some time every morning watching Australian TV which is basically a hybrid of American TV. One of the local Fox affiliates runs several hours of The Simpsons every morning. I also watch Sportscenter and Australian Sportscenter. Not to mention by daily fix of cricket, which I'm starting to get the hang of.

The Australian Open tennis tournament is in full swing and several pros are sharing the same hotel. I've seen Maria Sharapova a few times wandering around.

Melbourne had a blackout today. It was 40 degrees Celsius or 104 degrees in American measurements. The lights went out in the Casino during one of the breaks due to the intense heat and overuse of AC in the city.

I wanted to go eat breakfast with my co-workers at 11am but the buffet was closed so we headed to a cafe called Automatic which serves breakfast until 4 PM. I've had the free range omelets there before with bacon and cheese. Instead of breakfast, I opted for an $17 personal pizza with bacon, chirizo sausage, onions, and spicy chicken.

I also convinced Justin (our video/radio producer) to eat a packet of Vegemite. If he did, I offered to pay for his entire breakfast which included a personal pizza with salami on it. He's an Italian kid from Philly and loves salami. He downed it and said it was super salty. Disgusting. I lost but I love food prop bets.
