The internet connection in my hotel room at the Castle sucks camel testicles. It feels slower than dial-up. Yikes. I have a ton of work to do and have to pick the essential things due to the slow connection. I'm staying on the Las Vegas strip with Derek while he's in town. It's closer to the Rio, so I thought, but the internet blows here. I was tempted to drive home to out apartment in Henderson just to get some pics uploaded.

On Wednesday morning, I drove Derek out to Red Rock Casino on the outskirts of Las Vegas, which is just a few minutes from Red Rock Canyon National Park. We ate brunch at the Grand Cafe then headed over to the sports book to watch France beat Portugal 1-0 in the World Cup semifinals. Grubby joined us as Zidane nailed that penalty kick. We eventually played some poker and I lost a few bucks. Luckily the Yankees game was on in the background and I got to see Melky Cabrerra hit a grand slam.
Last night I had a superb dinner at Palm with Derek, Grubby, Flipchip, and the Poker Prof. Techically we all work together in some capacity on LasVegasVegas.com and this was our celebration dinner of sorts combined with a farewell dinner with Grubby, who's leaving at the end of the month to take a job in Chicago. I ate filet mignon and their classic chocolate cake for dessert. Derek and Grubby hated our waiter. He kept touching them on the back and arms. After our two hour dinner, I drove to the Rio so I could work for a couple of hours.
The bloggers get in town starting tonight. We have a private tournament set up on Saturday, which should be fun. I organized the first gathering of 30 people in December of 2004. This one is four times larger. Yikes.
I'll post some pics when I can from the last few days and from this weekend.
For now, I have to put the partying on hold and head over to the Rio to cover a tournament. Phil Hellmuth is seeking his 10th bracelet while the lovely Isabelle Mercier is looking for her first bracelet and major tournament win in the $5,000 buy-in NL tournament at the World Series of Poker.
That's it for now.
